New Construction and Condo Conversions

June 1st, 2007 · No Comments

If you’ve looked at the Seattle skyline lately you’ll see a dramatic difference then how the skyline looked just 5 years ago. Seattle has a major construction boom going on in the downtown area with a vast number of new condominium, apartment and commercial buildings going up. In addition to all of the new construction buildings, Seattle is seeing a surge in condo conversions. Condo conversions happen when a developer purchases an existing apartment building with the intent to turn it into condominiums and sell them. Most conversion projects consist of doing some work to the building mostly in the way of cosmetic upgrades to the individual units to make them more appealing to potential buyers. This usually includes new kitchen counters, flooring, appliances and paint. In some projects the buildings have some structural issues or electrical and/or plumbing issues and so the builder then takes on repairing those items prior to selling the units as well as the cosmetic upgrades.
